Buying Used Goods

As you surf the internet, make notes of what is on offer. Make comparisons. If a picture is shown, check that it matches the item for sale. Some sellers may use representative pictures as opposed to 'real' ones. It is common that the seller will not mention defects or bad condition of the item.

Remember that just because you are buying through a reputable site does not mean the site has verified the quality of the item.

However there is general rules allowing refund for broken or false goods, you should check these rules on the site you wish to make a purchase on before doing so.

Buy New Goods

Purchasing new goods in generally safer than buying used goods because you are making you purchase directly with a company. However there are some key points to watch out for.

Once you have found the item you want try to verify that the company is legitimate and well known.

Products sold online are often not garantied to work especially with cosmetics or medical suplies you should take note of the terms and conditions of the goods to do this you may need to visit the website of the product not just the site that is selleng the product.

Check points for Online Purchases

  • Ensure you are dealing with a reputable company and that the site is secure. You can see if a site is secure by the "https" as oposed to "http" in the address bar when making a purchase this is because off SSL(Secure Socket Layer) which provides a secure connection when submitting important information.

  • When you buy, print off or save the details of the company you are dealing with, including terms and conditions, it is also important to include the description of the item especially for Used Goods as this will be removed from the web after you make the purchase and you may niot be able to find it again.

  • Ask or find other users who have used the company what their experience has been. This can be done easily by using a search engine like google to search forums or blogs using the company name and the product type.

  • Read the small print before deciding to go ahead. If an online seller cannot provide satisfactory responses to questions on warranty terms, delivery or product quality, it would be safer to shop elsewhere.

  • It is rare you will be asked to pay for cash for an item this is acceptable if you meet with the seller localy, but be very cautious when doing so.

  • If the seller asks you to pay a deposit. Don’t presume that the deposit is refundable, always ask before making a payment if you dont get an answer dont assume you will.

  • Always print or save confirmation of your order. You should always get an order number, the main specifications of the item ordered including the price agreed, and the expected date of delivery.

  • When buying used goods if the picture does not appear to be a real photo but a photo from a website for marketting purposes it is a good idea to request a real photo from the seller. Please see the example below the picture on the left was taken from the dell website the one on the right is a real photo.
